Embodiments of imaging devices of the present disclosure correct chromatic aberrations present in color images obtained from an image sensor having a color filter mosaic based on a series of several images taken at different focal positions of an optical imaging lens possessing uncorrected chromatic aberration(s).

1. An imaging device, comprising:
an optical imaging lens having chromatic aberration, the optical imaging lens positioned at different focal positions for different wavelengths; an image sensor having an array of pixels and a color filter mosaic, the image sensor configured to receive light transmitted from the optical imaging lens; and a lens controller configured to change a focal position of the optical imaging lens to acquire a sequence of sub-frame images at the different focal positions and, for each pixel of the array of pixels, one sub-frame image from the sequence of sub-frame images, for which the one sub-frame image generates a maximum sharpness value relative to other sub-frame images in the sequence of sub-frame images, being selected to form a corresponding pixel of an output frame image.
