According to the invention, the composition of the active mass of the negative zinc electrode, consisting of zinc oxide and binding agents, also contains an additive of cuprate superconducting ceramics. The additive of 1 to 15 percent by weight cuprate superconducting ceramics, selected from the group consisting of ceramics of the bismuth type - strontium - calcium - copper - oxygen (BSCCO) 2201, 2212, 2223 or yttrium (or a rare earth element) - barium - copper - oxygen 123 (Y(RE)123) improves the volume conductivity and structure of the zinc electrode, reduces the gas release during charging of the electrode, which has a favorable effect on the stability of the capacity and extends the life of the electrode. The zinc electrode with active mass, containing an additive of 1 to 15 percent by weight superconducting cuprate ceramics, selected from the group consisting of ceramics of the bismuth type - strontium - calcium - copper - oxygen (BSCCO) 2201, 2212, 2223 or yttrium (or a rare earth element) - barium - copper - oxygen 123 (Y(RE)123), can find an application as a negative electrode in alkaline, also including nickel-zinc, chargeable batteries.
