A mounting clamp comprising: a body portion having a mounting attachment element in the body portion of the mounting clamp wherein the mounting attachment element is sized and configured to allow the placement of the mounting clamp upon a mounting component; a bracket portion generally located near a bottom end of the body portion, the bracket portion including a set of gripping edges wherein each of the set of gripping edges includes an opposing flange oriented inwardly, and wherein a material used to manufacture the body portion tends to maintain a preset dimensional gap between each edge of the set of gripping edges such that the set of gripping flanges are biased by the resilient nature of the material to return to the preset dimensional gap when the set of gripping edges are temporarily biased apart; a clamping plate slideably disposed on the body portion to contact a tee bulb of a tee-shaped suspended ceiling component to assist in the stabilization of the mounting clamp when mounted on the tee-shaped suspended ceiling component; and a clamping plate retainer that includes a fastener disposed within a slot in the clamping plate and also disposed in an aperture in the body portion, wherein the aperture is axially aligned with the slot.
