<p>Disclosed are a light emitting diode (LED) having improved light extraction efficiency and a method of fabricating the same. The LED includes: a substrate which has protrusion parts on a surface; and a light emitting structure placed on the substrate. The light emitting structure includes: a first conductivity type semiconductor layer; a second conductivity type semiconductor layer placed on the first region of the first conductivity type semiconductor layer; and an active layer placed between the first conductivity type semiconductor layer and the second conductivity type semiconductor layer. Meanwhile, some of the protrusion parts penetrate a second region of the first conductivity type semiconductor layer. Light can be emitted to the air or an insulating layer through the protrusion parts which penetrate the first conductivity type semiconductor layer, without passing through the first conductivity type semiconductor layer from the substrate. Therefore, light extraction efficiency can be improved.</p> |
