The present invention relates to a device and a method for counting the number of people walking toward a camera in a straight path in a CCTV-based image analysis system. According to the present invention, the counting device includes: a face detection unit which detects faces in an image received from a recording device on a real-time basis; a face recognition unit which compares the detected faces and the registered faces in a face list registered in advance to identify the detected faces; a face tracking unit which tracks the identified faces to determine whether the identified faces enter a counting area or not; and a counting unit which increases a counting coefficient when the identified faces enter the counting area.
