The present invention provides a device and method for the control of a linear compressor capable of adequately (optimally) designing an initial value of a piston in consideration of efficiency in an operation range (or high efficiency operation range) of a compressor, which is generally used, and performing the asymmetrical operation in a high-load operation range (or an operation range with high cooling capacity) to improve the maximum cooling capacity. The device for control of a linear compressor according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a driving unit to drive a linear compressor based on control signals; a detection unit to detect a motor current and voltage corresponding to a motor of a linear compressor; an asymmetrical current generating unit to generate an asymmetrical motor current with a current offset applied to the detected motor current; and a control unit to generate the control signals based on the asymmetrical motor current and detected motor voltage.
