FIELD: physics, computer engineering.SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a display device and a method of displaying information using a display device. The display device includes an image display unit (IDU), having a visual display surface (VDS); a topology display unit (TDU) overlaid on the visual display surface (VDS) and adapted to controllably change the topology on a tactile display surface (TDS) through a polymer activating layer; the topology display unit (TDU) further provides signals from sensors, indicating that external forces are applied on the tactile display surface (TDS), wherein the topology display unit (TDU) comprises a plurality of stacks of active layers with an electroactive polymer (EAP) layer (L1-L5), and the thickness of the layers of the stacks increases with increase in distance from the tactile display surface (TDS).EFFECT: combining presentation of optical information in a visual image with presentation of information on a shape represented by a topology overlaid on an image, while allowing dynamic presentation of topological information, detecting tactile user input and tactile feedback with the user while detecting touch, as well as safer use of the display device.26 cl, 7 dwg |
