The present invention relates to a jelly-roll type electrode assembly including a heterogeneous membrane with a taping unit to enhance the safety and a lithium secondary battery including the same. The lithium secondary battery can prevent the fracture or damage of the membrane due to the decrease in the tensile strength during a winding process, includes the taping unit on the uncoated area of both electrodes to minimize the damage on the membrane in the winding process, and prevents the shrinking of the membrane due to the heat emitted in an overcharged state or short-circuit, thereby enhancing the safety of the battery. The present invention can enhance the safety of the battery and extend the service life thereof.
