Process for production of sulphuric acid

Disclosed a sulphuric acid condenser (142), having a process gas side and a heat transfer medium side. The process gas side is a condensing side of the condenser. The heat transfer medium side is a side of the condenser in which heat transfer medium flows. The condenser is configured for feeding a hot process gas containing sulphuric acid to an inlet (102) of the condensing side. The condenser is further configured for withdrawing a cooled process gas from an outlet (106) of the condensing side. The condenser is even further configured for withdrawing a sulphuric acid or oleum condensate in a position proximate one end (114) of the condenser. The condenser is divided into a process gas cooling zone (150) and a process gas reheating zone (152). The process gas cooling zone has a cool heat transfer medium inlet (120) and a heated heat transfer medium outlet (122). The process gas reheating zone (152) is located downstream of the process gas cooling zone and includes means for reheating of the process gas. Condensing process gas to sulphuric acid and reheating remaining process gas is thereby conducted within the same integral condenser. This avoids corrosion of further downstream processing units separate to the condenser. Processes for the production of sulphuric acid and/or oleum are also disclosed.
