Disclosed is a method for operating a timber-working device (4) that has a drive system and a cutting device (15). A controller receives an indication of one of at least two stems (40, 41) being processed by the timber-working device (4) having a damaged end. The drive system then feeds only the stem with the damaged end relative to the cutting device (15) by a predetermined distance.
