Process for the conversion of organic material to methane rich fuel gas

The disclosure relates to a process for the conversion of organic material to methane rich gas. The process comprises: a) vaporising organic material in a chamber free of oxygen and mixing it with an excess amount of hydrogen gas at 450 degrees C to 650 degrees C to form a mixture. b) heating this mixture to 600 degrees C to 900 degrees C in the presence of hydrogen gas and superheated steam to form a gaseous mixture comprising methane, hydrogen and acid. c) neutralising the gaseous mixture with a base. The process may optionally proceed with a metal catalyst and occur at a process between 0 and 2 atmospheres of pressure. (FIG. 3).
