Apparatus, systems, and methods provide a mechanism to enhance the management of data security in a system for users of the systems. Various embodiments include apparatus and methods to manage security of data in an electronic system on an application-by-application basis. Such application-by-application basis can be applied in addition to managing data security globally in the electronic system. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed.

1. A method comprising:
in response to a backlight of an electronic device being turned off, automatically encrypting data of at least one application that is open in the electronic device which is separate from operating system on the electronic device; in response to the backlight of the electronic device being turned on, requesting an authentication be entered to resume operating the application locked down by the encrypting data; and in response to the authentication being specific to the application being locked down, resuming operation of the application locked down by the encrypting data.
