This invention achieves a pixel interpolation apparatus and an image capture apparatus that are capable of executing appropriate pixel interpolations even if the pattern of a color filter arrangement (i.e., the information of the colors constituting a color filter) is unknown. In the image capture apparatus (1000), for image signals acquired by an image capture unit (C1) having a single-plate type of image capture element having a four-color arrangement color filter, the pixel data of a peripheral area around a pixel of interest are used to obtain multiple sets of correlation values in two directions orthogonal to each other, and a correlation direction is determined on the basis of the correlation values. The image capture apparatus (1000) utilizes the fact that the high frequency components of pixel signals in the direction (i.e., the direction normal to the correlation direction) that is orthogonal to a direction (i.e., the correlation direction) in which the correlation is high exhibit a high correlation (i.e., a similarity) independently of the colors of the color filter, thereby acquiring first to fourth color component pixel values for the pixel of interest. Thus, the image capture apparatus (1000) can execute appropriate pixel interpolations even if it is unclear what colors the four colors (i.e., the first to fourth colors) of the color filter are. |
