PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method of an engine which can protect the engine while obtaining a favorable gear change feeling at a down-shift of a vehicle. ! SOLUTION: A control method which increases an engine output for improving a gear change feeling at a down-shift detects a down-grade and an engine rotation number, calculates an engine rotation number change rate, prohibits control for increasing the engine output when numerical values of the detection and the calculation exceed preset thresholds, and thereby suppresses that the engine exceeds allowable rotation. !
