A projection image display device (1) is provided with: an image projection unit (21) that displays an image by projecting the image to an image projection surface (2); sensors (11, 12) that detect an operator (3) that operates the projection image display device (1); operation detection units (13, 14) that detect a motion of the operator on the basis of an output from the sensors; and a control unit (24) that controls the image projection unit (21) on the basis of detection results obtained from the operation detection units. A sensing area (400) to be detected by means of the sensors (11, 12) is differently set for the case where the direction of the image projection surface (2) is perpendicular, and for the case where the direction is horizontal, and it is preferable that the area is set narrower for the case where the direction of the image projection surface is horizontal than for the case where the direction is perpendicular. Consequently, irrespective of the direction of the image projection surface (2), operations of the user (operator) can be accurately detected. |
