<p>A vacuum cleaner (100) according to the present aspect comprises a first compartment (101) accommodating a motor and fan unit (110), and a second compartment (102) arranged to accommodate a dust receptacle (120). A lid (130) is provided for preventing access to a portion of the second compartment where the aperture is located. The lid is arrangable in open and closed positions. An aperture (104) fluidly connects the first and second compartments, and a protection element (108) is arranged to prevent access for a user to the motor and fan unit via the aperture. A mechanism is arranged to automatically set the protection element in: a covering position when the lid is set in the open position, and an uncovering position when the lid is set in the closed position. The air flow through the aperture is enhanced, as the resistance to the air flow caused by the protection element is reduced when it is in the uncovering position.</p> |
