PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass for coating a metal that has a high coefficient of thermal expansion and has high water resistance, and to provide a metal member having a glass layer attached thereto that has a coating formed from the glass for coating a metal.SOLUTION: The glass for coating a metal contains, as expressed by mole percentage in terms of oxides, 35 to 50% of PO, 5 to 15% of AlO, 20 to 35% of KO, 0 to 20% of NaO, 0 to 5% of LiO, 25 to 50% of &Sgr;RO (R is at least one selected from the group consisting of Li, Na and K), 0 to 18% of BaO, 0 to 10% of SrO, 5 to 18% of BaO+SrO, 0 to less than 12% of ZnO, contains substantially no PbO, and has a molar ratio of (Li+NaO)/KO of 0.10 to 0.45. The metal member having a glass layer attached thereto is produced by using the glass for coating a metal. |
