The invention relates to aqueous, cationically stabilized primary dispersions which comprise dispersed polymer particles which have a Z-average particle diameter of from 5 to 500 nm and which are obtainable by emulsion polymerization of at least one olefinically unsaturated monomer (A), where the emulsion polymerization takes place in the presence of one or more emulsifiers (EQ) which have the following general formula: R1-N⊕(R2)(R3)(R4) XΘ, in which R1 is a moiety which contains at least one aromatic group and at least one aliphatic group and which has from 15 to 40 carbon atoms, and which has at least one functional group selected from hydroxy groups, thiol groups and primary or secondary amino groups and/or has at least one carbon-carbon multiple bond, R2, R3 and R4 are mutually independently identical or different aliphatic moieties having from 1 to 14 carbon atoms, and X is the acid anion of an organic or inorganic acid. The invention further relates to a method for producing the primary dispersions, to coating compositions which comprise the primary dispersions, and to the use of the primary dispersions for producing electrocoats, and also to conductive substrates coated with the coating compositions. The invention further relates to emulsifiers which are used for producing the primary dispersions of the invention. |
