PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toll collection system capable of dealing with electronic toll collection by utilizing an existent toll collection system. ! SOLUTION: A toll collection system 100 includes: an automatic toll collection machine 1 for collecting a toll from a passing vehicle 101; a front-side vehicle detection part 31 provided at a front side of the automatic toll collection machine 1 in a direction of travel for detecting approach of the vehicle 101 to utilize the automatic toll collection machine 1; and a main control device 11 for controlling the automatic toll collection machine 1 on the basis of a result detected by the front-side vehicle detection part 31.
