An impregnating tool (48) comprises a support element (50) comprising a supporting face (52), a cover element (54) comprising a covering face (56) facing the supporting face and disposed at a distance (A) from the supporting face, and a receiving space (58) delimited by the supporting and covering faces having an inlet opening (70) for supplying reinforcing fibre material into said space in a continuous process and an outlet opening (72) for removing said material impregnated with the plastics material. The distance (A) is constant in a direction perpendicular to a feed direction (F) of said material through said space and parallel to a plane defined by the supporting face or the covering face. The support element and the cover element are movable relative to one another that the distance (A) in the feed direction (F) is adaptable to a varying thickness of said material fed through the receiving space.
