This adjusting valve drive mechanism (15) for a steam turbine is for adjusting the flow rate of steam that serves as a working fluid for a steam turbine and drives an adjusting valve (13) in which a valve (132) is used to open and close a steam path through which steam flows. The adjusting valve drive mechanism (15) is provided with: a rotary motor (151); a spur gear (154) that is made to rotate by the rotary motor (151); and a chain (155) that meshes with the teeth of the spur gear (154), advances or retreats in a predetermined advance/retreat direction (S) that is a tangential direction of the spur gear (154) in accordance with the rotation of the spur gear (154), and causes the adjusting valve (13) to advance or retreat.
