The invention relates to a cell-based method for the production, using recombinant means, of formulations of fully human polyclonal antibodies comprising variable proportions of classes and subclasses of antibodies. Preferably the classes of antibodies are selected from the group consisting of IgG antibodies, Ig antibodies, IgA antibodies, IgM antibodies, antibodies similar to Ig, single-chain antibodies (ScFv), ScFv - Fe antibodies, fragments of Fab antibodies, and related combinations. Naturally circulating immunoglobulins or antibodies are produced by different B cells with each individual B cell producing immunoglobulins with a specific structure. The natural structure of immunoglobulins (Igs) is a chain construct with four polypeptides and the structure comprises two identical heavy (H) chains (approximately 450-600 amino acids) and two identical light (L) chains (approximately 230 amino acids). The different classes of antibodies are defined by the H chains and classified in the five main classes or isotypes: IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG, and IgM. |
