A bicycle crank arm (10) including a support member (16). The support member (16) includes a first end (12) sized and shaped to receive a pedal and a second end (14) opposite the first end (12). The second end (14) is sized and shaped to receive a spindle and a middle portion (34) extends between the first and second ends (12, 14), wherein the middle portion (34) includes at least one recess (18). An insert (20) is disposed in each of the one or more recess (18) and an outer shell (24) that covers the support member (16) and insert (20) , wherein the outer shell (24) is made of fiber reinforced composite. |
