<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stirring device capable of sterilizing a shaft seal mechanism properly and quickly. <P>SOLUTION: The stirring device A includes: a stirring container having a through hole 11A; a stirring shaft 2 which is inserted into the through hole 11A and rotated around an axis; and the shaft seal mechanism 3 which seals the gap between the through hole 11A and the stirring shaft 2. A space S2 that can be pressurized is provided outside the shaft seal mechanism 3. The space S2 is formed by a case 4 which covers the whole of the shaft seal mechanism 3 and has an opening 4A, and a cover 5 which is supported on the case 4 so as to make the opening 4A closable. The cover 5 is formed in a cylindrical shape having a pipe connection hole 5A for guiding a pressure medium into the space S2 in a part of circumferential surface thereof and fitted to the case 4 externally so as to be displaceable in the axial direction of the stirring shaft 2. A plurality of annular sealing members R6 are provided between the case 4 and the cover 5.
