<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve productivity in document reading, in detection of dust at a document reading position. <P>SOLUTION: An image reader comprises: a dust detection part 201 which executes first dust detection processing of detecting dust at a document background portion when there is no document at a reading position before reading a document and second dust detection processing of detecting dust at the tip of the document during reading the document; a dust determination part 202 which compares the dust detection result of the first dust detection processing with that of the second dust detection processing; and a CPU 109 which performs control to avoid the first dust detection processing before reading the next document if the dust determination part 202 determines that the dust detection result of the first dust detection processing matches with that of the second dust detection processing. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT</p> |
