<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool having a hard coating layer exhibiting excellent chipping resistance in intermittent high-speed cutting. <P>SOLUTION: The surface-coated cutting tool has, on a surface of a tool body, (a) a Ti compound layer as a lower layer, (b) anα-type Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>layer as an intermediate layer and (c), as an upper layer, a Zr-containingα-type Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>layer having a flat polygonal and elongated crystal grain structure, which are deposition-formed. The intermediate layer and the upper layer are made of theα-type Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>layer with high orientation ratio of the (0001) plane and the Zr-containingα-type Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>layer, respectively. The inside of a crystal grain occupying an area ratio of 60% or larger of the crystal grains of the upper layer is divided by a crystal lattice interface comprising at least one constituent atom sharing lattice point form expressed asΣ3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
