A pneumatic tyre comprises, between the tread and the carcase, a breaker structure of one or more superposed layers 1 of parallel, substantially circumferentially directed, textile or metal, cords, either in the form of a single band or a series of spaced, side by side, separate bands, the band or bands having an overall transverse width not exceeding that M-M of the tread and the cords being embedded in a rubber of low modulus of rigidity in combination with either, Fig. 5; (a) a carcase of two or more superposed layers 2, 5 of parallel, textile cords disposed in radial planes containing the tyre axis, between and/or below which carcase layers are disposed an even number of reinforcing layers 3, 4 of parallel, textile cords directed at an angle of 30 to 70 degrees to the circumferential, the cords of half the reinforcing layers being directed oppositely to those of the other half, and the lateral edges of the reinforcing layers extending beyond those M-M of the tread but terminating short of the points N, N of maximum carcase width, or Fig. 6; (b) a carcase of an even number of superposed layers 2, 5 of parallel, textile or metal cords wherein each cord comprises lateral portions lying in radial planes containing the tyre axis and extending from the tyre beads 6 to points intermediate the points M, N connected by a medial portion directed at an angle of 30 to 70 degrees to the circumferential the medial portions of half the layers being oppositely directed to those of the other half. The textile cords may comprise natural or synthetic fibres, and in construction (a) the textile cords of the reinforcing layers may have different elastic characteristics from those of the carcase. In both constructions, one or more additional layers of parallel, textile or metal cords lying in planes containing the tyre axis, may be disposed above, below or between the layers of the breaker structure. |
