Provided is a washing machine which uses a damper to reduce vibration of a water tank, and the damper uses magnetorheological fluids as working fluids, thus the productbility and the reliability of products can be improved. The damper (21) used for reducing vibration of the water tank accommodating a rotary drum (rotary tank) works in this way: by means of a magnetic field generated by an upper coil and a lower coil (51, 45) housed in an inner part of a cylinder (22), a magnetic force is applied to magnetorheological fluids (66) positioned between a rod (23) and an upper magnet yoke, a lower magnet yoke (54, 37) and a middle magnet yoke (47) to improve viscosity of the magnetorheological fluids, and increase frictional resistance of reciprocating motion relative to the rod (23) to increase a damping force, thereby inhibiting the generation of vibration of the water tank, a gap part (36) is formed at an axial opening end part of the cylinder (22), and at the gap part (36), leads (57, 58) used for supplying power for the abovementioned two coils (51, 45) are inserted and fixed in an axial direction of the cylinder (22). |
