The present invention relates to a hand call unit for a nurse call system. The hand call unit comprises a call button provided with a status indicator (1) for indicating a call being present or not, and is arranged for establishing a passive electrical connection (5) with a nurse call system by providing a first communication link between the hand call unit and a central controller of the nurse call system through the at least one input/output device of the nurse call system, which is arranged for communicating with the hand call unit. The hand call unit further comprises a processor (4) capable of monitoring the status indicator and the call button and is characterised in that the hand call unit is arranged for, on detection of a faulty operation of the nurse call system, establishing a second communication link over a nurse call network (8) connecting the hand call unit with the nurse call system. |
