A switching arrangement comprises a number of rows of crossing points for connecting subscribers' lines to intermediate lines and a further row of unmultipled crossing-points for connecting an intermediate line to the associated outgoing junction line. The arrangement is shown schematically in Fig. 1. The subscribers are arranged in subgroups TGr1-TGr10 and each pair of sub-groups is associated with ten intermediate lines such as ZL1-ZL10 and the associated outgoing junction lines VL1- VL10. Each pair of sub-groups comprises 19 subscribers' lines such as Tn11-Tn29, each associated with a horizontal row of crossing points such as k11/1- k11/10. Each crossing-point consists of four contacts of magnetic type. An additional row of crossing-points k20/1-k20/10 is unmultipled. When a call is initiated on subscriber's line Tn11, a control device SE (Figs. 3, 4 and 6, not shown) operates to identify the calling line and its sub-group. The control device also selects a free intermediate line, say ZL1, and associated junction line VL1. The control device then energizes selector coils X11, X20, Y1, Y11 corresponding respectively to the calling line, the unmultipled row of cross-points, the switch to which the calling line is connected, and the switch to which the junction line is connected. Contact sets k11/1 and k20/1 close and connection is thereby made from the calling line to the junction line. The control device then energizes holding coils Ht1 and Ht11 and restores the selector coils. For incoming traffic use is made of a reduced number of intermediate and junction lines. |
