摘要 A method for calibrating a detection apparatus such as an ion mobility spectrometer for the detection of a target chemical comprises using a calibrant sample comprising isoflurane (also known as 1-chloro-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl difluoromethyl ether, CAS number 26675-46-7) as a chemical standard. Data relevant to the detection of negative isoflurane monomer and dimer ions are collected and calibration is based on an evaluation of the negative isoflurane monomer ion data against the negative isoflurane dimer ion data. The method may comprise determining a level of clustering of neutral molecules about the isoflurane monomer ion using the ratio of the isofluarane monomer ion drift time to the isoflurane dimer ion drift time. The calibrant sample may be introduced by means of a vapour generator in response to a change in temperature, pressure or electric field of the detection apparatus.
