550,815. Preserving rubber latex. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. Sept. 1, 1941, No. 11127. Convention date, Sept. 10, 1940. [Class 70] Latex is preserved with less ammonia, e.g. 0.2 to 0.75 per cent., than is generally used, and with a nitroparaffin, or halogen substituted nitroparaffin germicide. The ammonia content of ammonia-preserved latex may be reduced by blowing air through the latex before adding the germicide. Other bases than ammonia, and sodium &c. salts of nitroparaffin &c. may be used. Examples of nitroparaffins are trichloro- or tribromonitromethane, or nitromethane, -ethane, -propane, or -butane, in amount 0.002 to 0.2 per cent. of the latex. An emulsifying agent, e.g. soap, may be used.
