A micro combined heat and power (mCHP) unit comprises an electric generator driven by an internal combustion (IC) engine 12. A condensate separator (not shown) is mounted in communication with the flue, remote from and elevated relative to the mCHP unit. This may be particularly useful with a floor mounted unit, making it is easier for the condensate to be removed by gravity. The unit may further comprise an auxiliary burner 16 for boosting heat output, and the engine 12 and booster burner 16 may have separate flues 94, 92, possibly attached together and within a concentric air supply duct 90, in a multiple balanced flue arrangement. Keeping the exhaust streams separate reduces pressure cross talk which could cause fuelling and instability problems in control of the booster burner 16.
|
