An illumination device comprising: a mounting substrate having a light-emitting element mounted to the upper surface thereof; a light-guide plate; and a plate-shaped member provided between the mounting substrate and the light-guide plate. An opening exists on the plate-shaped member, said opening causing at least part of the light-emitting element to be exposed. The light-guide plate has a light-incident section above the opening. The light-incident section has: an element-facing surface provided facing the light-emitting element; and an inclined surface having a gradually decreasing angle of inclination relative to the upper surface of the mounting substrate, said angle decreasing the greater the distance from the element-facing surface along a first direction on the upper-surface side of the light-guide plate. The plate-shaped member has a peripheral edge section surrounding the opening. The peripheral edge section has a pair of sections sandwiching the opening along the first direction and overlapping the element-facing surface when the light-guide plate is viewed in the planar view. |
