<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium secondary battery with excellent battery characteristics through restraint of reaction of Li of a cathode active material with aqueous solution, as well as a cathode active material suitable for manufacture of the above battery. <P>SOLUTION: For forming a cathode active material layer of the lithium secondary battery, the cathode active material is used for preparation of aqueous paste containing aqueous solvent and a cathode active material. The cathode active material is structured of complex oxide at least with Li and Ni as constituent metal elements, at least a part of the surface of which is covered with a water-soluble Li compound. A covering volume of the water-soluble Li compound is so stipulated that a ratio (m<SB>Li</SB>/M<SB>all</SB>) of the number of mols m<SB>Li</SB>of Li in the compound to the total number of mols M<SB>all</SB>of all the metal elements other than the Li constituting the complex oxide is to be 0.018 to 0.032 based on the neutralization titration method. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
