PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell which makes it possible to reduce the weight and cut down costs while restraining the size in the height direction from increasing.SOLUTION: A fuel cell 1 comprises a fuel cell laminate 3 composed of plural unit cells which are laminated one on top of another and a tightening device 21. The tightening device 21 is formed with a pair of tightening assemblies 22, respectively disposed on both sides in laminate direction of the fuel cell laminate 3, and tightening retention means 31 which tightens the assemblies 22 so as to bring them closer to each other to retain the laminated condition of the unit cells. The tightening assemblies 22 include a first beam 23 and a second beam 26 which are disposed crossing each other, characterized in that at least one of the first and the second beams has a cut groove 24 at a center part in the longer direction thereof, through which the other beam is passed, and that at least one of the first and the second beams has sidewall parts 23a parallel to the laminated direction of the unit cells and facing each other and an inter-sidewall wall part 23b provided as one body across the sidewall parts. |
