A hook and eye fastener 1 for securing two pieces of a garment together that comprises a hook part (3, Fig. 2) mounted on a face of one of the pieces 15 and an eye part (5, Fig.1) mounted on face of the other of the pieces 27. The hook part 3 comprises a planar body 7 with an arm 9 extending outwardly there from, the arm 9 comprises an inner portion 11 which extends perpendicularly from the body 7 and an outer portion 13 extending parallel to the body 7, the side of the outer portion 13 facing the planar body 7 defines an abutment surface 14. The eye part 5 comprises a planar frame 21 with an open mouth (23, Fig.1) which receives the outer portion 13 of the hook parts arm 9; the eye part 5 has a complementary abutment surface 25 on the underside of the frame for engagement with the abutment surface 14 of the hook 3. The faces of the pieces 27 and 15 are slidable relative to each other so that the hook engages with the eye to fasten the straps of garment together.
