The present invention relates to a separator for an electrochemical device and an electrochemical device containing the same. More particularly, the present invention relates to a separator for an electrochemical device having superior drop impact strength and improved ventilation and an electrochemical device containing the same. A separator for an electrochemical device according to the present invention has drop impact strength of 100 g to 200 g, porosity of 15% to 80%, thereby improving stability and battery performance.
