摘要 Devices and methods for controlling an electronic system are provided. An embodiment of a device comprises a spring having a first end with a first handle and a second end with a second handle. A first sensor detects movement of the first end and a second sensor detects movement of the second end. Each sensor provides a control signal to the electronic system such that the electronic system can act according to the varying control signals. A method comprises providing a spring-based musical instrument and providing a computer having a speaker. The spring is altered by the musician in order to generate control signals to the computer. Sound is generated by the speaker and varied by the computer according to the received control signals.

A device for controlling an electronic system, comprising: a spring having a first end and a second end, wherein each of the first and second ends includes a handle configured to be manipulated by a user, whereby the user may change one or more of a position, orientation, shape and length of the spring by a manipulation of one or more of the handles; wherein the spring is configured to deliver to the user, via one or more of the handles, a force-feedback response generated through a reaction of the spring to one or more of compression, extension, bending, and torsion resulting from the manipulation of one or more of the handles; a first sensor in electrical communication with the electronic system, wherein the first sensor is configured to send a first control signal to the electronic system; a second sensor in electrical communication with the electronic systems, wherein the second sensor is configured to send a second control signal to the electronic system; and wherein the first and second sensors are further configured to measure one or more movements of the first and second ends of the spring, corresponding to changes in one or more of the position, orientation, and shape of the spring, and to encode the measurements, respectively, within the first and second control signals.
