The invention provides a process for preparing a compound of formula CF3CHFCH2X, wherein X is CI or F, the process comprising contacting 3,3,3-trifluoropropene (1243zf) with a compound of formula AB selected from C12, Br2, 12, CIF, CIBr, and ICI and HF in the presence of a zinc/chromia catalyst to produce the compound of formula CF3CHFCH2X.
