Bone cages are disclosed including devices for biocompatible implantation. The structures of bone are useful for providing living cells and tissues as well as biologically active molecules to subjects.

1. A method of assembling an implantable device for delivering one or more biologically active molecules to a subject, comprising:
identifying the one or more biologically active molecules, selecting one or more devices at least partially constructed of anorganic bone and including a natural internal cavity therein; micromachining the one or more devices to re-shape the natural internal cavity thereof; micromachining the one or more devices to form one or more openings therein; providing the one or more biologically active molecules to the one or more devices; and closing the one or more openings with a layer of confluent cells prior to implanting the device in the subject.
