The control unit controls the first bias application unit not to apply the first bias to the charging roller in a non-image forming period in which a toner image is not formed on the photosensitive drum. The control unit controls the second bias application unit to apply the second bias, which is a bias that can electrically charge the surface of the photosensitive drum, to the transfer roller in the non-image forming period.

1. An image forming apparatus comprising: an image carrier;
a charging member having an ion conductive material, the charging member being arranged in contact with or in proximity to the image carrier and charging a surface of the image carrier; a developing unit that forms a toner image on the surface of the image carrier; a transfer member that transfers the toner image formed on the surface of the image carrier to a transfer object; a first bias application unit that applies a first bias to the charging member; a second bias application unit that applies a predetermined bias to the transfer member; and a control unit that controls the first bias application unit and the second bias application unit, wherein, in a non-image forming period in which the toner image is not formed on the image carrier, the control unit controls the first bias application unit not to apply the first bias to the charging member and controls the second bias application unit to apply a second bias, which is a bias that can electrically charge the surface of the image carrier, to the transfer member.
