The present invention relates to an automatic texture recognition apparatus, wherein the invention comprises: a light irradiation unit for irradiating a light modulation pattern which is generated in response to a synchronization control signal and a pattern control signal, to a subject; a light composite sensor for photographing the subject and for generating an image input signal; a texture recognition unit for recognizing a two-dimensional texture of the subject by using the image input signal; and a control unit for generating the synchronization control signal and the pattern control signal. The texture recognition unit transmits a processing result depending on whether the two-dimensional texture of the subject has been recognized. The control unit generates the pattern control signal and the synchronization control signal for modifying the light modulation pattern depending on the processing result. The synchronization control signal is generated so as to synchronize the operation of the light irradiation unit, the light composite sensor and the texture recognition unit.
