PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide tricarboxycellulose having a uniform structure and a method capable of producing the tricarboxycellulose conveniently and safely. ! SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing tricarboxycellulose which comprises a step of oxidizing a cellulose-based raw material in a reaction solution containing an N-oxyl compound and a co-oxidizer, where the cellulose-based raw material is a regenerated cellulose and 30 mmol or more of the co-oxidizer is used based on 1 g of the cellulose-based raw material and 90% or more of the functional groups X1, X2 and X3 in the repeating unit represented by the structural formula (1) is a carboxyl group or a salt thereof. !
