PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination optical device that makes an illuminance distribution on a screen uniform to reduce unevenness in illuminance of a display image.SOLUTION: An illumination optical system 10 includes a rod integrator 13 that guides the light emitted from a light source to a reflection type light valve 18, a relay lens 19, a folding mirror 16, and a condenser lens 17; as for the illuminance distribution on the reflection type light valve 18 illuminated by the illumination optical system 10, the illuminance at the end positions of the reflection type light valve 18 is higher than the illuminance at the center position. |
