PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve ignitability of an ignition device for supplying discharge energy in a superimposed manner from an auxiliary power supply to spark discharge started by applying a high voltage from an ignition coil to an ignition plug. ! SOLUTION: In an ignition device 6, an auxiliary power supply 5 includes a discharge switch 51, a discharge switch drive control circuit 52, a rectifying element 53 and primary current detection means 54.
