PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique favorable for protecting insulation breakdown of a drive transistor. ! SOLUTION: A recording element substrate is equipped with: a recording element for recording; a MOS transistor including a drain terminal electrically connected to a first node to which a first voltage is supplied, a gate terminal electrically connected to a second node to which a second voltage is supplied, and a source terminal and a back gate terminal which are electrically connected to the recording element; switch means which is disposed on an electric current path between the recording element and a ground node; and at least one diode. Said at least one diode has an anode which is connected to the source terminal and the back gate terminal of the MOS transistor, and a cathode which is connected to the gate terminal of the MOS transistor. !
