796,612. Making microporous battery plates &c. COMPAGNIE DE CAOUTCHOUC MANUFACTURE DYNAMIC. Oct. 24, 1955 [Oct. 5, 1955], No. 30387/55. Class 87(2). Material, e.g., a mixture of polyvinyl chloride and silica, is fed from a hopper 1 along a vibrated shoot 2 to the nip between adjustable rollers 3, 4, compressed by a roller 5, heated by an infra-red heater 7, pressed by an adjustable roller 8 to form a profiled sheet, which is then passed on a conveyer belt 12 through an infra-red kiln 17 and cooling chamber 18, and finally cut into plates by a rotary knife co-operating with a rubber-covered drum. Brushes 9, 10 clean the rollers 4, and 8 respectively. The heating in the kiln may be varied by adjusting (a) the speed of conveyer, (b) the distance of the sheet from the source of heat, and (c) the heat itself. The rollers 4 and 8 are heated and the rollers 3 and 5 cooled. The rollers 5 and 8 are profiled and the roller 3 may have teeth on its surface. Specification 745,204 is referred to. |
