According to the present invention, a method for detecting a lateral profile is disclosed. A detection method according to an embodiment comprises the steps of: acquiring a first image including the lateral profile; detecting a first area from the first image based on a predetermined face recognition method; detecting a second area from the first area based on predetermined branch point information; extracting the color of the second area; detecting a first lateral image from the first area based on the extracted color of the second area; and detecting the lateral profile from the first image based on the first lateral image. Additionally, the detection method may detect a reference point positioned in the outermost part of the first lateral image and move a detector in a left and right direction in the first image within the first area based on the reference point to detect a profile point where a texture difference is maximum. The detection method may repeat the detection of the profile point in a vertical direction to detect the lateral profile.
