The present invention provides an apparatus for butt welding a thick plate comprises: a pressurizer pressurizing two thick plates in the direction to enable contact surface of two thick plates in a horizontal position to come in contact with each other; a first roller electrode provided to rotate while coming in contact with one upper surface among two thick plates and horizontally moving with the contact surface during rotation; a second roller electrode provided to rotate while coming in contact with the other upper surface among two thick plates and horizontally moving with the contact surface during rotation; and an alternating current power source applying alternating current voltage between the first roller electrode and the second roller electrode.
